Café and Train Milk Way Night
I went out this past weekend to see the Milky Way. I knew it would rise around 1030pm and the moon at 60% wouldn’t come up until after midnight. It gave me around 90-120 mins of Dark Skies.
I started by driving out to Last Chance, CO and shooting the MW over an abandoned café. In my eyes the shot looked good but with the wind, giant semi’s passing by feet behind me and the wild animals I packed up quickly and only got a couple of images.
I then drove down to Deer Trail which is a nice town but I have had weird feelings by the locals there before so I continued down to Byers. I have long tried to grab the MW over a train and this one set up nicely. It was just before midnight and the site was very active. I could tell there was someone in the train working and multiple semi’s came through this feed yard / rail yard. I made sure people knew I was there by constantly using a head lamp and making noise. I did make sure to not interrupt anyone and set up close to the road (after confirming no “No Trespassing”) signs. I captured 5 images using an iOptron star tracker for the MW. The drive home was nice watching the bright moon rise in the eastern skies.
