Pops on Route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma

We had a long weekend for Presidents Day weekend in 2022, so we decided to take a quick trip to Oklahoma. I had never been here before and wanted to check it off the visited states (23 now of 50). There isn’t a whole lot to do in Oklahoma therefore a long weekend was the perfect amount of time to visit.

No trip to Oklahoma is complete without driving on Route 66. The first night we landed we visited Pops, its claim is to have the largest soda pop attraction with this 66’ tall neon structure. Inside there are 1000’s of bottles of soda. Inside you will also find a diner with what looked to be pretty decent comfort meals and milkshakes. It is also a full-service station for fuel. The road to get there isn’t too bad if you take Hwy 35 then a long dark drive out to the station. There are no streetlights during the drive so it can be a little sketchy. Street is lined by many trees too which raises animal concerns.

I didn’t want to drag my tripod out of my suitcase, so I used an old air station as my tripod. It was a little wobbly, so I used a 2 sec timer for taking shots. It’s not a very busy road and needed to wait a bit to time my shots with car trails. This shot is 25" exposure at f/13 ISO 125.
