Abandoned Dog Track under the Milky Way

Shots like this are exactly why you want to invest in a star tracker if you love the night sky. A shot like this would be impossible to get without using one. With a tracker you can not only shoot the image at a much lower ISO, longer shutter speed but also at a longer focal length. In night photography there is a rule of 500 (500/focal length = Shutter Speed) where you will get trailing in your stars and the Milky Way becomes a blur. Normally on a 50mm lens you could only have a 6-10 second max shutter speed which would require an ISO of 6400+. For most cameras an ISO this high is not usable. With the tracker you can leave the shutter open longer and break the 500 rule, longer shutter = more light = less high ISO noise = crisper image
This is one of the rare locations where I did not hear animal noises other than crickets. Usually I feel like I am being hunted or watched by wildlife. I did see a few cars driving by though which was surprising due to the remote location of this. No one stopped to talk to me or even check on me. When out shooting at night I do prefer to be left alone and avoid any possible confrontations so the fact that they did not stop was ok by me
